New Day Orphanage

New Day Foster Home is in the outskirts of Beijing, China. It takes the metro-subway system (Line 5 Sonjiazhuang to L2 Yizhuang Light Rail) and a long cab drive, if not a phone call to the orphanage to be picked up at the subway. Once there, workers and volunteers greet and give a tour/history of the facility. At the end, the orphans come out to play. The thing that makes this orphanage special is that due to the communism and high population (1.35 billion citizens) in China, the laws are strict and couples are only allowed to have one child. Because many can only bare one child, if a second child is born or if the first child is born with a birth defect, many are abandoned. New Day picks up these abandoned children, primarily infants, and try to give them a new life by getting surgery (if need be) and adopted. Right now there are many infants with cases of heart, liver, kidney, and other health problems that need surgery and are seeking help.
